SK Hynix’s planned move into the Seorin Building reflects the current situation where competition in AI semiconductors has emerged as the core of the group’s future business. Furthermore, financial soundness has improved, with borrowings decreasing by approximately 21% and the debt-to-equity ratio falling from 172.8% to 135.7%.

Vietnam LNG Project: A Bridgehead for AI Ecosystem Expansion

The groundbreaking of the 3.3 trillion won Quynh Lap Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) power generation project in Vietnam by an SK Innovation consortium is also closely related to SK Group’s AI strategy. This project goes beyond simple power generation and is part of the ‘Specialized Energy-Industrial Cluster (SEIC)’ model, a future industrial ecosystem that SK Group proposed to the Vietnamese government. The core of this initiative is to support Vietnam’s industrial advancement by supplying electricity generated from the power plant to nearby advanced industrial complexes and applying a ‘Korean-style AI full-stack’ value chain, which includes building AI data centers. Top executives, including Chairman Chey Tae-won, held multiple meetings with Vietnam’s top leadership to bring this project to fruition.

SK Group is pursuing a clear strategy to secure future growth engines through business restructuring centered on AI semiconductors and global market expansion. SK Hynix’s strategic relocation to the Seorin Building, aggressive rebalancing, and the establishment of an AI-linked energy cluster in Vietnam demonstrate that this strategy is not merely a concept but is being actively implemented.
