To lead the era of artificial intelligence, SK Group is accelerating AI technology innovation through collaboration among various affiliates. SK Telecom announced a roadmap to build AI data centers totaling 15GW by 2035, aiming to secure an AI hub in Northeast Asia by attracting domestic and international big tech customers. This is a proactive strategy to respond to the explosive increase in demand for AI training and inference. SK Hynix is leading the AI semiconductor market based on its High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) production capabilities and plans to expand its production base with advanced packaging processes in Indiana, USA. Additionally, SK Telecom is expanding its AI ecosystem by bringing SK AX and Technomatrix into its proprietary AI foundation model project consortium.

Expanding Bio Business and Strengthening Global Competitiveness

SK Group views the bio industry as another core growth engine and continues active investment. SK Biopharm is expanding global partnering by showcasing its AI utilization strategy at the 2026 Bio International Convention (BIO USA). It is broadening the application of AI from new drug discovery to research and development and digital transformation of operational tasks, utilizing its own AI platform. SK Bioscience is accelerating its transformation into a global bio-platform company by simultaneously advancing R&D capabilities and expanding its production network. In particular, through the relocation of its Songdo R&PD Center, it plans to consolidate research and process development systems in one place and expand research projects for next-generation modalities such as messenger RNA (mRNA), viral vectors, and cell and gene therapies (CGT).

Leading Eco-friendly Energy Transition and ESG Management

To address climate change and achieve sustainable growth, SK Group is also focusing on eco-friendly energy businesses. SK Inc. plans to launch Korea’s largest renewable energy company by integrating its renewable energy businesses with global private equity group KKR. This integrated entity will encompass all areas of renewable energy generation, including solar, wind, fuel cells, and energy storage systems (ESS), with a goal to expand electricity capacity to approximately 10GW by 2031, about six times its current capacity. This demonstrates SK Group’s commitment to proactively respond to the surging electricity demand from AI data centers and contribute to achieving carbon neutrality goals. Furthermore, SK Innovation is striving to secure various eco-friendly energy solutions, such as entering the global Small Modular Reactor (SMR) market through equity investment in TerraPower, a US next-generation SMR developer.

SK Group continues its transformation and innovation in 2026, centered on the three pillars of AI, bio, and eco-friendly energy. It is creating new growth opportunities in the global market through bold investments and strategic restructuring. These efforts are expected to have a positive impact on the economic development of South Korea.
